The general safety requirements for luminaires IEC 60598-1
The general safety requirements for luminaires IEC 60598-1:2014 (8th edition) were officially published In May 2014, which replaced the previous version of IEC 60598-1:2008 (7th edition)in January 2015. The EN standard EN 60598-1: 2015 is also in force and will officially replace the previous version of EN 60598-1:2008+A11:2009 on October 20, 2017.
Updates to standards: Some of the IEC/EN 60598-2 standards have been updated based on the structural characteristics of different products. electrical and structural safety requirements for LED luminaires have been added.
Updated some of the test requirements for Class III products.
Specific update project
1) Based on the above three aspects, the main updates to the standard are:
IEC/EN 60598-2-6 (tungsten light fixture with built-in transformer): will be cancelled after the new version of the standard. All tests have been included in the new version of IEC/EN 60598-1.
IEC/EN 60598-2-20 (light string): The new version of the officially published version of 2015-09-30 will only be used for ordinary light strings and will no longer contain Rope Light.
IEC/EN 60598-2-21 (Rope Light): The requirements for plumbing lamps are separated from the original string standards and published on September 30, 2015 as separate standards.
2) Updates to LED luminaires mainly include:
Based on the particularity of light sources such as LEDs, the light source is divided into ordinary replaceable light sources, non-replaceable light sources, and non-replaceable light sources for users; and different labels, specifications, and structural requirements for different light source types.
3) Updates for Class III products mainly include:
Increased insulation requirements between lines of different voltage levels in controller luminaires such as transformers/drivers.
The external wire diameter requirements for Class III luminaires in Class III luminaires or luminaires have been relaxed.
Exempted from creepage distance and clearance requirements for working voltages not exceeding 25Vr.m.s. or 60Vd.c lines
