On 19 April 2018, the EU issued the commission's implementation resolution (EU) 2018/594 in its official communique, adding 1,2, 4-benzoic anhydride (biphenyltrianhydride, TMA, CAS no.552-30-7) to the list of SVHC candidate substances.The resolution states that TMA, because of its respiratory sensitization, meets the requirements of REACH regulation (EC) 1907/2006 section 57(f) for inclusion in the list of candidates for SVHC and should therefore be added to the list of candidates for SVHC.

        Previously, TMA was proposed to include SVHC candidate list in the 16th batch of consultation list, but it was not included in the final 16th batch of candidate list because there was no consensus.

        Corporate responsibility:

        If the following two conditions are met simultaneously, the goods manufacturer and exporter shall notify the ECHA within six months from the date of material inclusion in the SVHC candidate list:

        I. The content of substances in articles exceeds 1 ton/year/manufacturer or exporter;

        Ii. The weight percentage concentration of the substance in the article is greater than 0.1%.
